Signs to look for are pointing to words, babbling or telling the story based on the pictures, turning pages the correct direction, and looking at the book right side up or will turn it right side up if handed the book upside down. Literacy skills and litterature appreciation are two different things and at this age, appreciation is more important. So the best sign to look for is does your child pick up books on his or her own and want to interact with them with you or on their own?
